An Outdoor Installation: Earth, rocks, water
(1998 McKnight 1st National Interdisciplinary Fellowship / Residency)
Two pools, 3 by 12 feet in dimension, are set flush with the ground. One
contains clear water, one contains rocks. The pools gradually deepen from
floor level at one end to 3 feet deep at the other end. In one pool, large
rocks fill the deep end and gradually diminish to small rocks filling
the shallow end. In the other pool, the color of the water changes from
deep to shallow. The deep end of one pool lies next to the shallow end
of the other. Triangular mounds of earth, excavated from the pools, sit
next to them.
