Weeping Wall

1989, Kala Institute, Berkeley, California
Performance / Installation: Water drops, light, chopsticks, wall texture

Viewers entered an empty brightly lit room. When the performance began, the light changed. The walls, that had appeared flat, were each lit from the side, revealing their texture. Using chopsticks, the artist applied water drops to the walls. These drops created long shadows. Some drops trickled down the wall, their shadows moving. At the end of the performance, the texture and water drops disappeared, when the room was again illuminated by bright lights. For the installation, the light changed again to single lights from the side of each wall, and viewers applied the water drops to the walls.
